Many people compare this to the 1978 film the wicker man but something many don"t mention is how this film is in many ways better. The acting and cinematography is much better and the disturbing moments and scenes of grief or much more heavy hitting. These are movies with two different goals and similar concepts but what I would and will argue to my grave is that midsommar takes the best aspects of that movie and makes it into what in my opinion the best movie of the year. The movie takes its time and the buildup is excellent the ending while some feel may be a letdown to me was the most powerful scene in the movie and the symbolisms and story telling is fantastic. The acting in this movie is not just great its realistic, the couple feels real and there situation is depressing, I know people like Mark who just want to have fun, this movie is perfect because it has comedic relief but it never takes away from the tension, the scares and just the overall feeling thats something is not right and its only gonna get worse. I have seen the directors cut of this movie twice in theatres and the second time was even better then the first time, the movie feels much smoother and fast pace but even on my first watch I knew I was watching something and someone who was truly great. I have no doubts that movies like this and movies like hereditary will go down as modern classics in the genre and Ari Aster is a name to look out for.

As a Swedish person I find this to be an offensive and unrealistic representation of our culture because it always rains during Midsommar. SPOILER. when your friends are slowly disappearing one by one, you kind of know your friends are disappearing one by one. But no one in this film ever seems to care ????‍??. I had bad anxiety attacks that led me to breath wrongly, so my doctor suggested because I dont exclude everything to refresh how to meditate again because I used to do it before. So found a group and I was engaged at that point they where super nice, told me that because they heard me talking about how I use to meditate and got often very deep so everything around me was so called closed off. I had a gift they felt it, because Im a sensitive but my sensitivity made me be more aware. They found it od I was suspicious about everything. I told look I got out the claws of my family and had and still deal with it. I should go with them on a retreat for a weekend, no phone, no radio or tv, no newspapers I said no. They immediately started that my fiancé was going to ruin my live because he didnt understand me as they did. The next event was a whole week both time there was a pick up point but you wouldnt know where you went upfront once again I said no, had my fiancé and my work as a nurse aid and couldnt leave. After that I stayed away, but it was like they tried once again when I met someone of that group oh you look so unhappy and your aura is so dark! Its polluted by your fiancé. I told her, no youre reading me wrong dear with a Boeddha smile on my face, Im happy and look forward to my live with him he does understand me more than all of you. We are married for nearly 27 years he learned to understand my sensitivity for a lot of things. He calls it my antenna for situations. I have seen first hand what cults had as result on people, some learn to live again and some are beyond a stage they are suspicious of ever kind word or act. Some even mentally unstable. That was my work as a nurse aid that provided help at peoples home to get them back on their feet after staying in a mental hospital because the family was worried of suicidal behavior. They needed extra help.

When that lady started singin during the sex scene the whole theater bursted out laughing. That was great haha. I adored the movie but can we talk about how masterful this trailer alone is? How excellently they provided enough information to give you the premise and some of the thriller elements of the film without giving anything away? The way they blended the clips in with the music? I keep coming back to watch the trailer just because the breathing + violin part is such a bop. And, after seeing the movie, being able to watch all the clips flashing through at the end that inexplicably unsettled you when you first watched the trailer and now make sense with context and still unsettle you? Sorry I"m just popping off but I"m so glad this movie and trailer exist.

There"s nothing that can change my mind, period. I see what you did there. You could see he has given up believing in absolute truths: liked most clips, but gave almost no 10/10. Is no one gonna talk about the violins? I loved this movie and it impacted me so much because I have serious anxieties about family and relationships. This movie to me was less about the cult and more about the main character, the entire movie is her processing through grief and finding a new family. There"s so much I can say about this movie but I can only say that this director continues to surprise me and I thank him for impacting me the way he did.

The four main cast were essentially taken hostage by pelle, much like the four hostages that were taken by the bank robbers in the Stockholm case. She eventually goes from a skeptic of everything, to being conditioned into choosing to kill her boyfriend and join her captors as their “queen.”.
