The movie is so light and refreshing. The plot is not that original anymore. Guy is in love (he thinks) with a girl and doesn"t know what to do bout it and enlists a a girls help (whose also secretly crushing on the aforementioned girl) is how the story goes. This is were the movie differs, and thank Universe, with the way they"re so relatable. Ultimately, it"s bout self-discovery. Yeah, it"s a love story but more importantly it"s about self awakening. Being bold and stepping out of your comfort zone. For me Ellie"s boldest move was not going to Grinell College but kissing Aster, and making a light promise to see her again. Paul"s bold move is not when he decided to step up and, elevate their family"s dying business, be his own man. His bold move is when he accepted the fact that Ellie is gay and that there"s more ways to love someone. He chose to be best friends with Ellie even if his belief said that being gay is a sin. Aster"s is not just saying no to what her parent"s want and what is expected of her but her self acceptance. She believes in God, and hopes Ellie find one to believe in, but embraces the fact that deeply she knows she wants Ellie. She just needs to figure out herself first by starting with her dreams and what she actually want. It is a pretty much one-off movie but I really hope Alice Wu would think of something for a part 2.

Kept seeing this and finally was like “why not it keeps popping up and boom had me on a emotional rollercoaster and I dont regret it. Movie is masterpiece and this break down adds another great dimension to it. How are all of them so damn attractive. So we are going to have a part 2 then ??.

Maybe it"s unfair of me, but I can"t help comparing this movie to another teen-focused Netflix production I just finished watching: Never Have I Ever. Mindy Kaling"s new series not only features an incredibly diverse cast, but is also hilarious, relatable, and full of heart. By comparison, The Half of It" feels hollow and bleak.
The trailer for this movie was promising, and I basically was expecting another "To All the Boys I"ve Loved Before" but with a queer twist, which I"m all here for. But "The Half of It" has none of the humor, awkwardness, or angst that typically makes teen productions entertaining and realistic. Thirty minutes in, I didn"t feel particularly attached to or invested in any of the characters, and the plot wasn"t interesting enough to keep me hooked, either.
I know not all teen movies have to be light-hearted comedies, but look at how "Never Have I Ever" managed to delve into deep subject matter like grief while still being highly engaging. "The Half of It, on the other hand, felt like it was trying too hard to be moody and introspective.
Maybe this movie got way better after the first 30 minutes, but I gave up at that point. For what should"ve been a triumphant win for representation, this movie didn"t nearly live up to its potential.

Many people compare this to the 1978 film the wicker man but something many don"t mention is how this film is in many ways better. The acting and cinematography is much better and the disturbing moments and scenes of grief or much more heavy hitting. These are movies with two different goals and similar concepts but what I would and will argue to my grave is that midsommar takes the best aspects of that movie and makes it into what in my opinion the best movie of the year. The movie takes its time and the buildup is excellent the ending while some feel may be a letdown to me was the most powerful scene in the movie and the symbolisms and story telling is fantastic. The acting in this movie is not just great its realistic, the couple feels real and there situation is depressing, I know people like Mark who just want to have fun, this movie is perfect because it has comedic relief but it never takes away from the tension, the scares and just the overall feeling thats something is not right and its only gonna get worse. I have seen the directors cut of this movie twice in theatres and the second time was even better then the first time, the movie feels much smoother and fast pace but even on my first watch I knew I was watching something and someone who was truly great. I have no doubts that movies like this and movies like hereditary will go down as modern classics in the genre and Ari Aster is a name to look out for.

As a Swedish person I find this to be an offensive and unrealistic representation of our culture because it always rains during Midsommar. SPOILER. when your friends are slowly disappearing one by one, you kind of know your friends are disappearing one by one. But no one in this film ever seems to care ????‍??. I had bad anxiety attacks that led me to breath wrongly, so my doctor suggested because I dont exclude everything to refresh how to meditate again because I used to do it before. So found a group and I was engaged at that point they where super nice, told me that because they heard me talking about how I use to meditate and got often very deep so everything around me was so called closed off. I had a gift they felt it, because Im a sensitive but my sensitivity made me be more aware. They found it od I was suspicious about everything. I told look I got out the claws of my family and had and still deal with it. I should go with them on a retreat for a weekend, no phone, no radio or tv, no newspapers I said no. They immediately started that my fiancé was going to ruin my live because he didnt understand me as they did. The next event was a whole week both time there was a pick up point but you wouldnt know where you went upfront once again I said no, had my fiancé and my work as a nurse aid and couldnt leave. After that I stayed away, but it was like they tried once again when I met someone of that group oh you look so unhappy and your aura is so dark! Its polluted by your fiancé. I told her, no youre reading me wrong dear with a Boeddha smile on my face, Im happy and look forward to my live with him he does understand me more than all of you. We are married for nearly 27 years he learned to understand my sensitivity for a lot of things. He calls it my antenna for situations. I have seen first hand what cults had as result on people, some learn to live again and some are beyond a stage they are suspicious of ever kind word or act. Some even mentally unstable. That was my work as a nurse aid that provided help at peoples home to get them back on their feet after staying in a mental hospital because the family was worried of suicidal behavior. They needed extra help.

How excellently they provided enough information to give you the premise and some of the thriller elements of the film without giving anything away? The way they blended the clips in with the music? I keep coming back to watch the trailer just because the breathing + violin part is such a bop. And, after seeing the movie, being able to watch all the clips flashing through at the end that inexplicably unsettled you when you first watched the trailer and now make sense with context and still unsettle you? Sorry I"m just popping off but I"m so glad this movie and trailer exist.

There"s nothing that can change my mind, period. I see what you did there. I loved this movie and it impacted me so much because I have serious anxieties about family and relationships. This movie to me was less about the cult and more about the main character, the entire movie is her processing through grief and finding a new family. There"s so much I can say about this movie but I can only say that this director continues to surprise me and I thank him for impacting me the way he did.

This film isn"t and never could be historically accurate. So reviews applauding the historical content of this film are nonsense.
The history of the Earps and Doc Holliday is shrouded in claim and counter claim based on the conflicting accuracy of eye witness accounts. No one truly knows who murdered Johnny Ringo, it could have been one of a dozen people including Johnny Ringo himself (as per the Coroner"s report which indicated suicide. Doc Holliday could have murdered him but he was in court on the day although he may have been represented by his attorney. Guns were terribly inaccurate at the time and shooting whilst riding a horse was all but impossible. As in all shooting films both historical and modern, the ability to shoot with the accuracy of a laser is virtually nil (unless the shooter is a modern scoped Sniper of considerable skill. Nuff said.
But as I mention in my summary, I couldn"t care less! This film is nothing short of magnificent. Val Kilmer gives a career defining performance as Doc which single handedly shamed the Oscar Academy (if there is a best supporting actor winner out there thats more worthy I would like to know. The relationship between Wyatt and Doc is compelling, with Wyatt as the honourable law abiding gunman vs his friend who is embroiled in a world of excess, drugs and death defying duels.
Michael Biehn on the face of it, looked mis-cast as Ringo and yet delivers an understated and assured performance, Powers Booth is on top form as Curly, the Earp brothers all chip in, especially Sam Elliot who is always good value.
The sets are lavish, the cinematography is breathtaking and the pace is perfectly balanced between rich story telling and stunning action set pieces. It would have been easy to make this film based around the climax at the OK Corral but not so - its almost a buddy movie, which is driven to conclusion at the private gunslinging showdown between Ringo and Wyatt.
Personally, I would take this film any day over Unforgiven which whilst an excellent Western, never quite lived up to its own hype. Costner"s Wyatt Earp doesn"t hit the spot either. Tombstone definitely does.

Interesting, the first trailer didn"t give the impression of a one-shot film and made it seem like there were shot / reverse shot scenes. I was already excited for this movie, now I"m even more excited.

This was a great film to work on. To be in the trenches of the set was both a thrilling and a humbling experience. What was so good about the movie please explain? same story rewrote 100 times over hardly any action and all they did was walk around the entire movie.

Yes, I loved the one take feel but at times it was a distraction because it caused me to pay too much attention to the camera work. I felt the camera too often. Just me. But I loved the whole movie.
The amount of negative reviews for 1917 is insane. I"m genuinely astounded that so many people didn"t get this film.
